SmallRig 71" Camera Tripod

A tall, packable tripod for stable camp shots, product photos, and video without committing to studio gear.

SmallRig 71 inch aluminum camera tripod
71 in height Tripod / Monopod Ball head Aluminum
Overview

A tripod is annoying until you need the shot to stop moving.

The SmallRig 71 inch tripod is tall enough for eye level shots even if you are not short, but still folds down small enough to ride in a camp bin or behind a truck seat. The legs are simple flip locks, the ball head just works, and it feels a lot more solid than the cheap tripods that flex when you bump the camera.

It turns into a monopod when you want something lighter to move around with, and you can flip the center column for low angle shots at ground level. It is not a featherweight carbon stick, but for camp, truck, and general outdoor use the extra stability is worth a little more weight.

For the price, it is an easy upgrade from the wobbly starter tripods, especially if you are starting to trust it with a nicer camera or longer lens.

Best for Camp video, product shots, self-filming, low-light photos, and vehicle-based camera kits.
Not for Backpacking, high-wind professional work, or people who will never stop to set up a shot.

My Notes

This is not something I would carry everywhere. It is something I want available when the shot matters and the truck is nearby.

  • Keep a quick-release plate with the camera or the tripod becomes decoration.
  • Weight it or lower it when wind picks up.
  • Use it for product photos and self-filming where handheld gets sloppy.
