SmallRig 71" Camera Tripod

SmallRig 71 inch aluminum camera tripod
71 in height Tripod / Monopod Ball head Aluminum
Overview

This is the tripod you throw in the truck and forget about until you need a steady shot.

The SmallRig 71 inch tripod is tall enough for eye level shots even if you are not short, but still folds down small enough to ride in a camp bin or behind a truck seat. The legs are simple flip locks, the ball head just works, and it feels a lot more solid than the cheap tripods that flex when you bump the camera.

It turns into a monopod when you want something lighter to move around with, and you can flip the center column for low angle shots at ground level. It is not a featherweight carbon stick, but for camp, truck, and general outdoor use the extra stability is worth a little more weight.

For the price, it is an easy upgrade from the wobbly starter tripods, especially if you are starting to trust it with a nicer camera or longer lens.

Best for Camp and travel shooting where you want a real standing height tripod that can handle a mirrorless body, a mid size lens, and wind without feeling sketchy.
Not for Ultralight backpackers counting every ounce or people who need a tiny tabletop tripod that lives in a sling bag full time.

My Notes

This is the kind of tripod that makes you actually use a tripod more because it is not a fight to carry or set up. It feels planted enough that you trust your camera on it but it still packs small enough for normal weekend trips.

  • Camp use: I like it for static shots of camp, time lapses of clouds, and talking to camera from a chair or standing by the fire ring.
  • Wind: In breezy conditions I hang a bag or water bottle off the center hook and it settles down fine.
  • Setup: Flip locks are quick when you are losing light - you can get to full height in a couple of seconds without fiddling.
