NOCO Boost Plus GB40

NOCO Boost Plus GB40 jump starter on a truck tailgate
1000 A peak 12 V jump starter Power bank LED work light
Overview

This is my “do not leave home without it” truck battery insurance.

The GB40 is a 1000 amp lithium jump pack built for normal rigs - daily drivers, small trucks, side by sides, and yard equipment up to about a 6 L gas engine or 3 L diesel.
It is small enough to live in a door pocket but strong enough to wake up a dead battery that has been sitting a little too long.

I like that it feels idiot proof. The clamps are chunky, the status lights are clear, and the safety electronics will yell at you instead of sparking if you clip on backwards.* At camp it does double duty charging phones and running the built in flashlight when you do not feel like digging out a lantern.

Best for Keeping in the truck for jump starts, helping coworkers in the parking lot, topping off phones on road trips, and having a backup light when something breaks after dark.
Not for Huge diesel trucks, shop use as a replacement for a real charger, or people who will never remember to charge it a couple times a year.

If you want one small box that can save a ruined morning and still be useful at camp, this is it.

*Built in reverse polarity and spark proof protection keep things sane if you rush the hookup.

My Notes
  • Clamps feel like real tools, not toy alligator clips. They bite through a little corrosion fine.
  • Lives in the truck. Gets used more for other people’s cars than mine, which is exactly how it should be.
  • The status LEDs are clear enough that you can use it half asleep on a cold early morning.
  • Like any lithium pack, it is happier if you top it off a few times a year and do not store it cooking in full sun.
  • If your battery is absolutely stone dead it can sometimes take a moment or a “boost” override, so do not panic if it does not fire instantly.

Keep the truck ready

Power, light, and a way home when the battery gives up.

Pair this with a solid headlamp, basic tool roll, and a sane camp kit and most little emergencies turn into minor delays instead of full disasters.
