Overview

Tall pines, roomy pads, and quick access to the Lake Mary corridor.

Pine Grove is a nice blend of convenience and forest feel. Paved approach, shaded loops, and sites with tables and rings. It’s a simple base for paddling, fishing, or day trips to Ashurst/Marshall.

Weekends book up—no surprise. Even then, evenings settle down and the breeze in the trees does its thing.

Why go
Shaded, near-lake camping with easy access and a low-stress setup.
Watch out for
Busy loops in peak season, variable cell, water spigots seasonal.

Outer-loop sites feel a touch quieter; I like morning walks toward Lake Mary before the day warms up.

Getting There

From Flagstaff, head south on Lake Mary Road (FH 3). Pine Grove is signed; approach is fully paved.

  1. Top off fuel/ice/water in town—corridor services are limited.
  2. Mind cyclists and wildlife; speeds vary with traffic.
  3. Check the kiosk for current notices, fire status, and water updates.

No reservation? Aim for earlier arrival; turnover helps on non-holiday weekdays.

My Notes

Easy pick when I want shade and a paved approach. I’ll wander to the lake at sunset and keep breakfast slow under the trees. If I’m meeting friends, it’s a low-stress setup with room to spread out.

  • Timing: Weeknights are mellow; Friday rush is real.
  • Setup: Tarp for midday sun + rug to keep dust down.
  • Play: Bring a paddle board or binocs—Lake Mary delivers.
