Overview

A deeper FR 300 campground just past the Woods Canyon turnoff, with water in season and lake access about two miles away.

Mogollon is the practical Woods Canyon-side choice in this pair. It sits off Rim Road after the Woods Canyon Lake turnoff, uses gravel campground loops, and gives you 26 developed sites with roughly 40 feet of parallel parking rather than tucked back-in spurs.

Choose it over Rim Campground when potable water and being closer to Woods Canyon Lake matter more than being right near the edge. Choose Rim instead if you want the quicker AZ-260 stop and a more viewpoint-first trip.

Best for
Woods Canyon Lake access, potable water in season, 26-site developed camping, and small rigs that fit parallel parking.
Watch out for
Gravel loops, 40-foot parallel parking, weekend lake traffic, and less immediate edge-of-Rim drama than Rim Campground.

Best version of the trip: sleep in the quieter FR 300 trees, then hit Woods Canyon early before the lake corridor gets busy.

Getting There

From AZ-260, turn onto FR 300 near the Rim Visitor Information Station, pass the Woods Canyon Lake turnoff, and continue to Mogollon Campground. It is a deeper FR 300 commitment than Rim Campground, but still straightforward.

  1. Watch for elk along 260 at dawn and dusk.
  2. Expect gravel campground loops once you are inside the site.
  3. Think about parallel parking length before bringing a longer trailer or motorhome.
Camping Info
  • Sites: 26 developed sites with table, fire ring, grill, and parallel parking around 40 feet.
  • Roads: campground loop road is gravel.
  • Water and toilets: potable water in season, accessible vault toilets, trash service, and a camp host.
  • Fires: in rings only when restrictions allow.
  • Nearby: Woods Canyon Lake is about two miles away on FR 105 for fishing, rentals, and electric-motor boating.
  • Fit: better for tents, pop-ups, and small trailers than big rigs.
My Notes

Mogollon should read as the useful FR 300 lake-base option, not just another shady Rim campground. The water, gravel loops, parallel parking, and two-mile Woods Canyon drive are the details that separate it from Rim.

  • Choose this over Rim: you want potable water in season and the closer Woods Canyon Lake setup.
  • Choose Rim instead: you want the quicker FR 300 stop, no-water simplicity, and easier access to the edge viewpoints.
  • Photo note: show the parallel site geometry and pine-loop feel instead of pretending the campground itself is the overlook.
