Overview

A simple Prescott pine-shade campground close to town that feels much quieter once day-use traffic fades.

Lower Wolf Creek sits just south of Prescott up in the ponderosas. Sites are tucked under tall trees with tables and rings; loops are narrow, so rigs that fit comfortably are vans, truck campers, and shorter trailers.

Afternoons bring a breeze through the pines, evenings cool off fast, and owls kick in after dark. Easy strike distance to Goldwater Lake and the Senator Highway drives.

Best for
Prescott overnights, mellow forest camp, quick trail access, and low-commitment weekend trips.
Watch out for
Narrow loops, small pads, and dry conditions—bring water.

Best version of the trip: bring your own water, choose a corner site, and treat town as backup instead of the destination.

Getting There

From downtown Prescott, head south on Mt. Vernon Ave/Senator Hwy. Follow signs toward Wolf Creek; campground is signed on a short spur.

  1. Top off water in town—assume dry services at camp.
  2. Drive Senator Hwy conservatively—curves, cyclists, and elk.
  3. Loops are tight—walk a site before committing longer trailers.

Weekend mornings fill quick. Weeknights are the move.
