Overview
A simple, quiet stop that does not try to be more than it is - and nails the basics.
Caballo Lake State Park was my first stop in New Mexico. I landed here looking for a clean, easy place to park, reset, and sleep hard. The campground is straightforward: big pull-in sites, lots of RV hookups, tent sites mixed in, ramadas over tables, and a layout that feels spread out enough to breathe.
The surprise was the comfort station. Flush toilets and showers, and not in a “good for a campground” way. Legit clean. The kind of bathroom you do not rush through. If you have been on the road for a few days, that matters.
This is not a destination campground. It is a really solid place to camp when you just need things to work.
